Tendrils is Mark’s first solo album. He’s a composer with a cinematic instinct and it was a pleasure to mix these tracks with him. He created nine tracks bridging intimate piano with subtle tapestries of electronics and found objects. So my piece of pie!
Mark about working together:
I worked with Gijs on my debut solo album “Tendrils”. I was really intent on finding a mixer who would be willing and able to go to battle with me: Finding a way to bring my vision to life and bringing their own voice and creativity into the project. My album is solo piano (with some synth and found object sounds) and I had done a lot of research into possible collaborators. It was extremely important to get the details right: Tone colour, mood, vibe and especially the sounds that surround the music.
Obviously, Gijs’s track record speaks for itself but he didn’t approach this like it was just another gig: He was always open, humble, motivated and generous. He has wonderful ears, a keen sense for discovering unexpected detail and nuance and a holistic approach to music making which is a rare gift.
I will keep working with Gijs and would recommend him to all my peers in the field.
